When the European colonizer first stepped foot in Africa, he did not meet a “poor”, “starving”, “corrupt” continent. Otherwise, he and his descendants would not have gone on to plunder this continent for 500 years. He met a beautiful, bountiful land inhabited by curious, hospitable, and relatively peaceful people who organized their affairs according to their unique, indigenous context, and who welcomed him into their homes believing him, though odd-looking, to be ultimately as human as them.

But there was nothing human about him. And in the centuries that would follow, he and his descendants would inject the cultural, political and spiritual illnesses of their own societies into Africa, disrupting the continent’s indigenous development, and erasing its indigenous memory.

That historical truth is encoded in this North African proverb.

But throughout the history of cultural erasure, there were Africans who fought back, great thinkers like Cheikh Anta Diop, John Henrik Clarke and Marimba Ani, who peered into the past to recover what was lost and remind the people of Africa who they truly were. • Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tchiani Visits Turkey To Strengthen Ties

On July 26, 2023, Niger – a historically impoverished and economically stagnant West African nation – came under the leadership of President Abdourahamane Tchiani, following a people-backed, anti-imperialist coup.

On July 6, 2024, Niger joined its fellow West African nations, Mali and Burkina Faso – which had each also come under new leadership following popular, anti-imperialist coups – to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

On July 28, 2025, the Nigerien government signed a landmark nuclear energy deal with Russia, having reclaimed its country’s uranium reserves from predatory French corporation, Orano.

On May 16, 2026, the Nigerien government signed a series of strategic deals with the People’s Republic of China, aimed at strengthening the country’s oil sector.

On May 18th, 2026, the Nigerien government finally revoked France’s 58-year-old concession on the country’s fabled Arlit uranium mine.

On June 4th, 2026, President Tchiani was received by his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, marking the former’s first official state visit outside of Africa. Discussions held between the two leaders centered on deepening cooperation between Niamey and Ankara in the fields of security, defense, education, trade and health.

Each of these unprecedented moves, and the hope they have brought to the Nigerien people, beg an important question, one which the wider African continent would do well to ponder:

What were Niger’s previous, Western-aligned leaders really up to in all the decades before July 2023, and what conclusions can we draw from this about Africa’s current leaders?

Indeed, a 2017 audit showed 72 per cent of South Africa’s private farmland remained in European-settler hands, who comprise a minority. Meanwhile, the World Bank ranked South Africa the world’s most unequal country in 2022.

The country’s deportations have risen 46 per cent in recent years and mass ire remains focused on African migrants who have fled the lingering impacts of European colonialism in their countries.

• The Empire That Divided Africa Is Still Drawing Lines

America has once again shown us that democracy is only sacred when it protects white power.

Republicans in Louisiana have redrawn the state’s congressional map, reducing Black-majority districts from two to one and effectively weakening Black voting power. They call the old map gerrymandering, but the new one is, too. The only difference is that this version benefits white voters, so suddenly, it becomes acceptable.

This is not new. This is the same playbook the empire used in Africa. Draw artificial borders. Break people apart. Turn majorities into minorities. Fracture unity. Make movement and trade difficult for Africans, while the same people who drew those borders move freely across the continent. Whether in Louisiana or in Africa, the empire understands the power of a united people. That is why it works so hard to divide us.

• France Repeals Slavery Law Nearly 200 Years After Supposedly Abolishing Slavery

The Transatlantic Slave Trade saw the kidnapping of over 12 million Africans from the Motherland by European criminals. Of those kidnapped, 20% would not survive the voyage to the West, and of those who did survive, about 12% would be trafficked to France.

France officially abolished slavery in 1848, yet a curious piece of legislation from this supposedly bygone era, known as Code Noir, remained enshrined in French law until just this May, when it was repealed in a unanimous vote by France’s National Assembly.

Why did it take France 178 years to repeal a law which gave its European citizens legal license to buy, sell, beat, r*pe and murder Africans?

And why now?

• Foreign Interference: Tanzania Blocks European Parliamentary Team From Visiting Country

In November 2022, China revamped its fabled Belt and Road Initiative – a win-win development initiative aimed at the Global South – in Tanzania. In December 2022, Tanzania signed a historic $2.2 billion railway deal with China to link the East African country’s port city, Dar es Salaam, to its neighbors, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda, as well as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Many other deals would follow, each with the potential to transform Tanzania and the wider continent, economically and politically, for the better.

But there was one problem.

An African nation was suddenly fast-tracking its development, without the blessing of the West.

And so the West did what it did best. It funded an “opposition” movement in Tanzania, and deployed its media parrots to promote the members of this “opposition” as “defenders of human rights and democracy” fighting against a “repressive” government, and sensationalize this government’s necessary actions to thwart the attempted color revolution that would follow.

And even after this failed regime change plot, the West continues to do everything in its power to destroy Tanzania.

• Modern Capitalism Was Born From The Slave Trade - African Union Rapporteur

In this interview with SABC News, historian, author and special rapporteur for the African Union (AU) committee on reparations for slavery, colonialism and apartheid, [ @panashechigumadzi (Instagram) / @PanasheChig (X) / Dr. Panashe Chigumadzi (everywhere else) ], sheds light on an important historical connection between the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the subsequent entrenchment of slavery across the “civilized” world, and the capitalist system that would eventually replace it.

A system which has always been based on the poisonous idea that human beings can be treated as commodities.

• Africa Is One Market, But Not for Africans

Africa has been treated as one big market for foreign goods, but Africans have been discouraged from treating Africa as one market for ourselves. The same people who tell us continental trade is too complicated have no problem moving their own products across our borders.

They want access to Africa’s market, but they do not want Africa to trade freely with itself. Because an Africa that trades with itself is an Africa that becomes stronger, more independent, and less dependent on foreign imports.

So when you see foreign products everywhere across the continent, while African products remain trapped inside their own countries, understand what you are looking at. Dependency by design.

Now, centuries later, the people of Africa and their brothers and sisters in the Caribbean, separated for all those centuries, are entering a new era of reconnection, on their terms.

On May 24th, 2026, Nigerian airline Air Peace flew 200 African passengers directly to Barbados, officially kicking off this new era. Direct flights between Africa and the Caribbean have been years in the making, with Barbados, Nigeria and Ghana leading the charge. They come on the heels of several visa waivers between African and Caribbean nations, and at a time when Africans are calling louder than ever for free movement and trade between all African nations – including those beyond the Motherland’s shores.

• U.S. Cell Towers Expose Washington’s Digital Hypocrisy

The United States plans to deploy 1,500 cell towers across #Nigeria, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana, claiming it wants to help connect off-grid communities and offer Africa an “alternative” to #Chinese infrastructure.

But the same U.S. government warning Africa about “insecure” foreign infrastructure also operates under laws that compel American-linked tech companies to hand over data, even when that data is stored outside the United States.

The hypocrisy is clear.

• What You Need To Know About Rwanda’s Nuclear Deal With Russia

Rwanda’s nuclear agreement with Russia is another sign that Africa is refusing to depend on Western powers and their exploitative systems for development. Across the continent, governments are building new partnerships with countries that can offer real value and support their own priorities.

For Rwanda, the deal opens the door to scientific research, skills training, nuclear medicine, and the development of local experts.

But the bigger story is Africa’s growing determination to secure the technology, infrastructure, and knowledge it needs on its own terms. As global powers compete for influence, Africa now has more options, more bargaining power, and more room to choose its own future.

• Africa Is Not More Corrupt Than The West

Donald Trump’s presidency is a gift to Africa because, through him, Africans are learning in real time that corruption is not our inheritance.

Trump sued his own tax authority and awarded himself a $1.8 billion settlement simply because his business and personal tax returns leaked. This is the “leader” trusted with managing American taxpayers’ money.

This incident and more like this show that corruption is not an African problem. It is a global problem. The difference is that in the West, corruption is often better packaged, and hidden behind institutions, legal language, and respectable titles. The scale of it is so massive that Africa could spend a hundred years trying and still not come close.

• Isr*eli Intelligence Officer: “[Our] Next War Will Be Against Turkey And Egypt”

In this candid interview on Isr*eli network Arutz Sheva, US-born Isr*eli intelligence officer Jonathan Pollard unwittingly offers the audience a glimpse into the predatory calculus of the Western military/intelligence machine. Speaking with near psychopathic coldness about the g*nocide currently being perpetrated by the country he serves on the people of Palestine, and the US-Isr*eli war of aggression against Iran – through which Iran continues to emerge victorious, as Washington and occupied Jerusalem continue to be humiliated – Pollard goes on to suggest that Isr*el should begin preparing for its next unjust war, this time against Turkey and Egypt.

For those Africans in the back who continue to view the United States and Isr*el as allies who wish them well…

Egypt is an African country.

One which also happens to share a border with the last African country that a Western army invaded.

• Benin’s New President Wadagni Visits AES To Mend Relations

Benin’s new President, Romuald Wadagni, has just paid a diplomatic visit to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). President Wadagni visited AES capital cities Niamey and Ouagadougou on June 2, 2026, in a bid to mend his country’s relations with the confederation, which have been strained for over two years.

Wadagni took office on May 24, 2026, taking over from former Beninese President and staunch ally of France, Patrice Talon. What this historic visit by President Wadagni means for the future of West Africa, however, remains to be seen. Niamey has accused Benin of being a vassal of France, from which the Western country has trained and deployed t*rror groups in its quest to destabilize the AES, and regain control of its 3 wealthiest former West African colonies. And Benin remains friendly with France.

Recall that on December 9, 2025, French officials openly boasted about France’s “logistical support” of the governments of Benin and Nigeria in the thwarting of the attempted anti-imperialist coup which took place in the former country on December 7, 2025.

Since its formation in 2024, the AES has faced relentless attacks by Western-backed t*rrorists, economic isolation and sovereignty violations by Western-aligned African states, and endless slander from Western and Western-aligned media. Despite these externally-imposed challenges, its member states have continued to record economic and political wins.

Faye came to power on the back of a public desire for real change, anti-imperial politics, Pan-African conviction, and a rejection of France’s continued influence in Senegal. That hope was embodied in PASTEF and in Sonko’s politics.

But the rift between Faye and Sonko has shown how quickly a people’s mandate can be weakened when leadership begins to compromise with the same systems it was elected to confront. Africa cannot achieve real progress without political and economic independence.

Senegal has become a warning. A righteous movement can be reversed when it is placed in the hands of leaders who are not fully committed to the cause.

• African Proverb Of The Week

In pre-colonial African culture, the collective was viewed as the ultimate source of power. Reality was viewed not as a sum of parts, but a whole, and the community as a circle that could never be broken. Long before the European colonizer ever stepped foot on the African continent, the collective nurtured, protected, preserved and thrived.

Thanks to centuries of colonialism, this truth about the wholeness of reality has been mostly forgotten. Rather than nurture, protect and preserve the whole, many Africans today seek individual success and validation within the colonizer’s system. Blinded by the West’s pathological individualism, they exhaust their time, energy and resources on literally anything but their own collective prosperity, and will happily betray this collective prosperity for the West’s scraps.

Thus the colonial system continues to thrive, and Africa continues to suffer, creating more division, justifying more fragmentation, and the vicious cycle repeats.

This East African proverb reminds us that for Africa to rise again, it must remember its ancient wisdom, and unify against the parasites who forced it to forget. This was the dream of its great modern leaders, like Kwame Nkrumah, Sékou Touré, Patrice Lumumba and Thomas Sankara.

And for the first time in generations, the dream of these great leaders is alive again in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)

• Niger Takes Full Control Of Arlit Uranium Mine, Revokes French Company’s License

Niger has taken another bold step towards the full nationalization of its resources. On May 18th, 2026, the Nigerien government revoked a 58-year-old concession granted to France’s Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) on the country’s fabled Arlit mine. French mining company Orano had been siphoning uranium from this mine to power France’s nuclear reactors for over 50 years before it was suspended from operating in Niger by the administration of President Abdourahamane Tchiani in 2024.

With this latest move by Niamey, Niger, which has relied on neighboring Nigeria to meet the bulk of its energy demands for decades, is closer than ever to finally harnessing its own energy reserves for the benefit of its masses.

As a member of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Niger has faced relentless att@cks by Western-backed t£rrorists, economic isolation and sovereignty violations by Western-aligned African states, and endless slander from Western and Western-aligned media. Despite these externally-imposed challenges, the country and its fellow AES members, Mali and Burkina Faso, have continued to record economic and political wins.

All 3 AES members have pointed to former colonizer France as a key sponsor of t£rror in the region – a claim which has been corroborated by their international allies – and France itself has made no bones about its intentions to revive its dwindling influence in Africa, and in so doing, shore up its presently crumbling economy.

• EBOLA: Africa Is Not a Dumping Ground for Western Fears

America wants to protect itself from Ebola by moving its exposed citizens to Kenya, a country with no recorded cases of the disease. In plain language, the United States does not want the risk on its own soil, so it wants to move that risk to #Africa.

Kenya’s High Court has now suspended the plan, blocking any Ebola-related quarantine, isolation, or treatment center tied to the US or any foreign government. The case, brought by the Katiba Institute, argued that the plan posed a threat to life if allowed to proceed without proper safeguards.

This is bigger than one facility. It is about how Africa is still treated as a convenient dumping ground for Western fears. When the risk is too dangerous for America, it suddenly becomes acceptable for Africans. Ruto’s government must answer a serious question: why should Africa carry a public health risk that America refuses to carry for itself?

• U.S. AFRICOM Signals New Scramble for Africa

The United States is not hiding its desperate scramble for Africa’s mineral resources.

At a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on May 14, 2026, U.S. AFRICOM commander Gen. Gagvin R.M. Anderson described Africa’s resources, geography, and population as critical to U.S. national security. In the same breath, he framed the continent as the “epicenter of global t*rrorism.”

That language is not accidental.

By presenting Africa as both resource-rich and security-threatening, the U.S. is creating the excuse for a pr*datory empire to do what it does best - destabilize and extract.

• European Settler To South Africans: Learn To Love Your Brothers The Way We Love Ours

In recent months, South Africa has witnessed a tragically familiar resurgence of x*nophobic, anti-African viol*nce, fueled by the oldest trick in the colonial book (“divide and conquer”). At a time when predatory Western corporations are kicking against the country’s equality laws – aimed at ensuring its African majority actually benefits from its economy – and when the US government is actively supporting separatist groups in the country led by white supr*macists, the timing of this resurgence could not be more telling.

Under the false pretext of “protecting” their country from “cr*minals”, a noisy minority of historically-illiterate South Africans has flooded the streets, hunt*ng down and att*cking Africans from other nations, blocking their children at the gates of schools, and calling for them to return to their countries. The African Union and human rights groups have strongly condemned these violations. Ghana and Nigeria have summoned their South African envoys over them, with Ghana evacuating nearly 300 of its citizens from South Africa this week. And through it all, the neocolonial forces that are actually responsible for the economic state of one of Africa’s longest and most directly colonized nations continue to enjoy their eternal free pass.

• Somaliland To Open Its First Embassy In Israel

5 months after being formally recognized by and offering its territory on a plate to the g*nocidal state of Isr*el, and 3 months after offering its minerals and military infrastructure on a plate to the United States – which may be safely considered Isr*el with extra steps these days – Somaliland is officially slated to build its first embassy in Jerusalem.

What these developments mean for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa remains to be seen, but for the time being, Isr*el remains the only nation to formally recognize Somaliland, and Somalia – from which Somaliland declared independence in 1991 – has condemned these developments as geopolitical plays on the part of Isr*el to expand its military presence in Africa, and vowed to defend itself against any Isr*eli military aggression in its territory

• Niger Signs Multiple Energy Deals With China

On May 16, 2026, the Nigerien government signed a series of strategic deals with the People’s Republic of China, aimed at strengthening the West African country’s oil sector. The signing ceremony, held in the country’s capital, Niamey, came two days before Niger took another bold step towards the full nationalization of its uranium, by finally revoking France’s 58-year-old license on Niger’s fabled Arlit mine.

The deals with China, amounting to $1 billion in investments, could see Niger’s oil production capacity increase by over 30% over the next 3 years, and together with the country’s nuclear power deal with Russia, could see its energy consumption skyrocket over that same time period.

As a member of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Niger has faced relentless att*cks by Western-backed t*rrorists, economic isolation and sovereignty violations by Western-aligned African states, and endless slander from Western and Western-aligned media. Despite these externally-imposed challenges, the country and its fellow AES members, Mali and Burkina Faso, have continued to record economic and political wins.

• Sierra Leone Becomes Latest African Country To Receive US Deportees

Sierra Leone has become the latest African nation in a sadly ever-growing list to “temporarily” accept US deportees under US President Donald Trump’s “third-country” deportation program. The West African country joins the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, Ghana and others in this strange arrangement, for which the US will reportedly cover all expenses.

Yet this arrangement must be called out for the neocolonial insult it is.

The US has spent decades waging economic warfare on the Global South, condemning millions of its people to poverty. In their desperation, many of these people have sought refuge in the US and other Western nations by whatever means available to them. But under the most openly racist, imperialist and corrupt administration in US history – emphasis on “openly” – the US has become especially hostile towards its immigrant population over the last 2 years.

And now Africa – a continent which has seen the face of Anglo-American terror more than any other part of the Global South – is being used as the US’s de facto dumping ground for its unwanted migrants, under the watchful eye of spineless leaders.

It is left to the people of Africa to respond appropriately.

• Ghanaian Artist Presents Painting To The Spearhead Depicting The Connected Struggles Of Africans

On May 28, 2026, Ghanaian expressionist painter Gusikende Seyon paid a visit to The Spearhead Accra Core Team, and gifted us with a painting depicting three African boys with the flags of Haiti, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) painted respectively on their skin, connected by their shared historical struggle against the brutal parasitism of the West.

Haiti, the modern world’s first independent black republic, has limped from one economic, social and political crisis to another since its once-enslaved people dared to rebel against their former oppressor, France, and win, over 230 years ago. Sudan entered the third year of its latest conflict this April 2026, a conflict fueled by external, Western-aligned forces which covet the North African country’s land and gold. And the DRC has not known a day of peace since its first democratically elected leader, Patrice Lumumba, was murdered by Western-backed terrorists in 1961, under the watchful eye of the CIA.

Kwame Nkrumah warned us decades ago, and yet Africa is still living inside the same neocolonial playbook.

The US destroys states, fuels instability, labels the consequences “ungoverned spaces,” then returns as the so-called solution through counterterrorism, military partnerships, intelligence operations, and trade deals tied to African resources.

Washington’s new counterterrorism strategy is not about African security. It is about protecting American interests on African soil and using insecurity as an entry point into mineral-rich regions.

This is why Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism remains essential reading. Nkrumah already explained the trick: a country may look independent on paper, while its economy, security, and political direction are controlled from outside.

For Africa, the lesson is simple. Anything that does not serve African sovereignty, security, and interests must be rejected.

• Why Did Washington Lift Ethiopia’s Arms Embargo Now?

Why is Washington opening the door for arms access to Ethiopia at this moment?

The answer is simple.

With the UAE already accused of backing the RSF, and Ethiopia now emerging as a possible route in the Sudan war, this decision could create another corridor for weapons to flow into an already devastating conflict and true to its predatory nature, the US empire has primed itself to exploit that opening.

Sudan’s war is not a local power struggle. It is about foreign interests, mineral wealth, regional control, and the continued weakening of African states for outside benefit.

• Is Ghana Moving Towards Nationalizing Its Gold?

When the colonial criminals of Europe first stepped foot in Africa, they did not meet a “poor”, “starving” or “corrupt” continent. Otherwise, they and their descendants would not have gone on to plunder this continent for 500 years. What Africans know today as poverty, hunger and corruption are not indigenous phenomena, but symptoms of a disease that was brought upon their land by parasites who had no interest in “civilizing” anyone.

It is a tragic irony. Africa is “poor” because it is wealthy, and because this wealth is being plundered, and the centuries the West has spent plundering Africa’s wealth is a testament to just how boundless that wealth is.

Ghana is Africa’s largest gold producer, and has been since 2019. Yet the bulk of the value from this gold has historically been carted off by foreign corporations, at the expense of the Ghanaian people.

But recent developments in the West African country seem to be shaking this status quo.

Since returning to office in December 2024, Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has effected reforms which have moved his country towards greater control over its natural resources, and seen its economy steadily grow.

What do these reforms mean for Ghana’s future? And is the country truly embarking on a nationalist path, one which could finally fulfill the dream of its founding father, Kwame Nkrumah?

On April 25, 2026, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) foiled a series of coordinated t£rror att@cks targeting several cities across the country, primarily the garrison towns of Kati, Kidal, Gao and Sevare. The Al-Q@£da-linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) and the so-called Azawad Liberation Forces (FLA) both claimed responsibility for these attacks, whose scale and orchestration suggested substantial external backing – Al-Q@£da has known links to the US government.

On April 28, 2026, Mali President Assimi Goïta addressed the nation, assuring all that the situation was under control, and vowing to continue military operations until the forces of t£rror were expelled from the country.

Not that you would know any of this if your only source of information on the April 25 att@cks was French media.

Is it the decades of externally-fueled hatred between Sudan’s Arab-aligned North and its more authentically African South – which triggered the 3 civil wars and several smaller conflicts that have ravaged the country for the last 7 decades to date?

Is it the decades of externally-fueled hatred between the once-harmonious Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups of Rwanda – which exploded into the 1994 Rwandan Gen*cide?

Is it the decades of externally-fueled hatred between Nigeria’s predominantly Christian, Western-aligned and supposedly “more educated” South and its predominantly Muslim, Arab-aligned and supposedly “less educated” North – which sparked two reactionary coups in 1966 that led the country nowhere, as well as the m@ssacre of at least 30,000 Igbos living in the Northern Nigeria later that same year?

Is it the decades of institutionalized racism in South Africa that are directly linked to the x*nophobic atrocities presently being committed by a noisy minority of South African citizens against their fellow Africans, while the descendants of the European colonizers who facilitated this institutionalized racism continue to control over 90% of the country’s economy?

It is the tried and true tactic of Western imperialism: divide and rule. And the wisdom of this West African proverb is simple: no matter what superficial differences are deliberately exaggerated in our cultural and media spaces to keep us at each other’s throats, Africans are ultimately all in the same boat. The parasitic engineers of our misery know this well, and fear nothing more than our realizing it too.

Because when Africans finally realize that they all bear the same load on their backs, they will unify and cast that load off.

And that will be the end of the West as we know it

• Mahdi Shehu on 1995 U.S.-Backed Plot Against Abacha

Mahdi Shehu’s account of the 1995 Durbar Hotel bombing speaks to foreign interference, regime change politics, and the hidden hands that have shaped Nigeria’s political history.

According to Shehu, a U.S. Embassy political officer approached him in Kaduna, offered him money, and asked him to drop a parcel at the Durbar Hotel as part of what he described as a campaign against the Abacha government. Shehu says he refused, only for the hotel to be bombed shortly after, with journalist Bagauda Kaltho later linked to the incident.

This story forces a larger question: how many times has Nigeria’s instability been engineered, sponsored, or encouraged by foreign powers, only to be later presented to us as our own failure? This is why Africans must pay closer attention to the history we are told, the history that is hidden, and the people who benefit from our chaos.

• Uganda President Museveni Signs Landmark Bill To Curb Foreign Influence In Country

On May 17, 2026, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed a landmark bill into law aimed at curbing foreign influence in the East African country. The Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, mandates that all individuals and groups in Uganda linked to foreign entities register with the Ugandan government as foreign agents, and declare their finances to the state – with hefty punishments for violations.

The bill was and continues to be criticized by all the usual Western-aligned suspects, using the usual “human rights”, “freedom of speech” soundbite playlist. But it is telling to note how these “critics” never seem to have much to say about the Western governments they answer to, despite each and every one of these governments having similar laws in place.

At a time when the West has never been more desperate to tighten its grip on Africa – having used NGOs and civil society groups as covert weapons to bend the continent to its will for decades – Africans would do well to see through this tired trick, and take a page out of Uganda’s book.
