Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos recently witnessed an outpouring of anti-Chinese sentiment allegedly caused by the encroachment of Chinese merchants into the last-mile retail space at the expense of local traders.
While the upheaval might appear on the surface to be the organic and understandable result of a tough economic situation, Mckay Chukwu’s latest story is another reminder that Africans living in the Age of Information are duty-bound to exercise healthy skepticism and carefully examine every social movement before lending their energies to it.
The Spearhead’s Senior Reporter has been looking into what has quietly been happening in the background of the supposed anti-China movement in Nigeria, and some familiar patterns and suspects are lurking yet again.

Burkina Faso Overhauls Its Curriculum to Reclaim African History
Burkina Faso is officially overhauling its national curriculum to strip out colonial biases, replacing terms like “explorers” and “conquerors” with “invaders” and “spies” in history, geography, and citizenship textbooks.
The reform introduces 54 new lessons from primary through secondary school that drop Eurocentric benchmarks in favor of indigenous political structures, local resistance movements, and African scientific contributions.
By emphasizing that African societies existed and thrived long before European contact, this initiative plans to correct decades of distorted narratives and reclaim the continent’s true history.
REGISTER FOR ECHOES OF AFRICA CHALLENGE 2026!
The Spearhead is proud to promote a competition designed to support young Africans in understanding their history and heritage.
History Africa (@historyafrica on IG) has opened registration for the Echoes of Africa Challenge 2026, a virtual quiz competition for junior-secondary and senior-secondary students in all 54 African countries.
The theme is “Africa Know Thyself: ‘Beyond the Single Narrative’” Indeed, while many people begin the discussion on Africa with colonialism and slavery and end it with poverty and corruption, History Africa seeks to broaden the conversation. The real African story begins with the oldest human fossils found, marking the continent as the birthplace of humanity and many great civilisations. History Africa then aims to teach African children about the impact of colonialism, the partition of our continent without our consent, the ongoing Scramble for Africa to this day, and the liberation heroes who didn’t back down against foreign intervention and colonial-backed leaders’ treachery.
Registration has been extended until October 5, and the virtual competition will occur on 10 October and 17 October for registrants.
Those young Africans who write the best essays will have a chance to win prizes. First position will receive 150,000 naira, second position will get 100,000 naira and third position will win 75,000 naira. All prize winners will receive a medal, certificate, educational materials, mentorship and training opportunities.
So young Africans: How much do you know about Africa?
Register by visiting historyafrica.org. The entry fee is 2,000 naira.
Obasanjo: French Company Didn’t Want Dangote To Succeed In Cement Production
In this clip, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo recounts when a French industrial interest in Senegal did all it could, including directly interferring in government and legal processes, for the purpose of frustrating an attempt by Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote to manufacture cmenet in Senegal.
For over half a century, France maintained suffocating control over the economies of its 14 erstwhile African colonies through the twin mechanisms of direct sovereign financial control via the CFA Franc, and invisible interferrence by French corporate interests present in these countries. The emergence of the Alliance of Sahelian States has finally begun the process of ending this parasitic relationship across the continent, which is why France is so disturbed by unfolding events in the Sahel.
Will Senegal be the next former French colony to make a full break with French neocolonialism and go after full sovereignty? Let us know what you think in the comments.
AES Launches Tafouk TV To Combat Western Disinformation
In another win for Africa’s information space, and another loss for Western media, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has launched its regional television channel, Tafouk TV. The channel will share pro-African, on-the-ground perspectives on events in the Sahel, and counter the Western narratives that have turned Africans against their own interests for decades.
It will come as no surprise that Western and Western-aligned media are already hard at work, using every tired old smear tactic in the book to delegitimize this historic development.
UK Courts Arraign Genocide Suspect Years After Blocking His Extradition To Rwanda
On the latest episode of “Why Africans Must Never Trust Western Justice Systems”, UK authorities have convicted Rwandan national and UK citizen Dr. Vincent Brown, for his role in the 1994 genocide of the Tutsis.
The September conviction comes 17 years after Rwanda made its first request to these same UK authorities for Brown’s extradition.
The “civilized” West has never cared about African lives. It is left to the people of Africa to look inwards for justice.
