While many African countries continue to cling to the old, colonial system of resource extraction, Alliance of Sahel States (AES) member Burkina Faso has just proven for the umpteenth time what a truly sovereign African nation is capable of. On September 28, Burkinabé President Captain Ibrahim Traoré inaugurated the country’s first state-owned, state-financed gold refinery, RAFFINOR-BF.
The $19 million, 164 annual tonne capacity refinery will boost Burkina Faso’s already soaring economy, as the country continues to nationalize its resources.

4 Years Of Revolution: Burkina Faso Continues To Assert Its Sovereignty
On this day, September 30, 2022, Burkina Faso severed ties with its former colonizer France, and embarked on a sovereign path under its revolutionary leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. 4 years later, the West African country and Alliance of Sahel States (AES) member has nationalized its resources, recorded a drastic drop in security incidents, seen its economy soar, and launched its first, 100% state-owned gold refinery.
While many African countries continue to cling to the old system of colonial exploitation, Burkina Faso and its fellow AES members Mali and N*ger are showing Africa that a different future is possible for its people, and that national development is not and has never been rocket science.
TotalEnergies Gas Deal and the Impending Cooking Gas Price Hike In Nigeria
Nigeria has some of the world’s largest gas reserves, but Nigerian consumers pay some of the world’s highest average prices per kilogram of cooking gas, despite having well-developed gas extraction infrastructure and the ability to deliver cheap gas to every Nigerian gas user.
These prices are set to rise even higher, following a recent announcement from the governmentbody that oversees consumer price regulation for petroleum products in the country. What is the reason behind this disconnect between resource wealth and resource accessibility in what is per capita one of the world’s poorest countries, and what needs to happen to fix this situation?
@Big_Mck explores the story behind the story for The Spearhead
Why Is Nigeria the Largest African Buyer of U.S. W*apons?
Nigeria just received a new batch of US arms and jet fighters to supposedly fight “t*rrorism.” It’s part of a years-long distribution of military equipment from the US to the West African giant.
Do you believe these w*apons will make a difference, given the United States’ complicity in creating t*rror groups worldwide? Drop us a comment.
African Proverb Of The Week
What does this Central African proverb tell us?
It tells us that the petty differences which keep Africans separate from and at odds with one another are poison to the continent’s progress, and this is precisely why Western nations are so intent on fueling these differences. From Libya, to Sudan, to Congo, to the Sahel, to South Africa, the places in Africa most exploited by Western powers are always – always! – the places with the most division and chaos.
And so it has been for a very long time. Africa has been on fire for over 500 years, and putting that fire out, by any means necessary, must be the continent’s number one priority, if its future generations are to survive.
