It’s 2026 and the world has seen an indicted war criminal with an outstanding ICC arrest warrant address the UN General Assembly, months after a country’s military invaded another country, kidnapped its sitting president and his wife, and locked them up like criminals in a prison in New York where they face trumped up charges.
The state of geopolitics and international relations in the 21st century has never left less room for doubt about the fact that interests and power - not rules - are the true animating force behind how the world works. In this commentary, @big_mck asks Africans the obvious question - who is protecting African interests?
Food Security: Burkina Faso’s Rehabilitative Correctional Center Doubles Cereal Harvest In 2026
Burkina Faso’s Baporo Agricultural Penitentiary Center, where inmates reduce their sentences by contributing to the country’s agricultural sector, is expected to double its 2025 grain harvest this year. The open-environment, low-security correctional center was built in 1986 by the administration of Burkinabé founding father and Pan-Africanist icon Thomas Sankara, but fell into disrepair following Sankara’s assassination by the West. It was revived earlier this year by Burkina Faso’s current revolutionary leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré, whose administration has chosen to place the dignity and humanity of convicted Burkinabé in the same esteem as the peace and security of the country.
This model is clearly working, and the rest of Africa would do well to take note.
Politician Kenneth Meshoe: South Africa Needs Israel
In 2023, Kenneth Meshoe, a South African MP who is also president of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), rejected a motion put forward by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to call Israel an apartheid state. He not only cited the Biblical line that the land Israel occupies is holy. He went further to express concern about the impact for South Africa’s trade with Israel.
Does it make sense for Africans to defend Israel as much as so many do? Drop us a comment.

France With Africa’s Resources vs. France Without Africa’s Resources
As French citizens take to the streets of their country in response to worsening economic conditions, we must remember the deeper reasons behind the ongoing drama. France’s economy has been in freefall ever since it was kicked out of its 3 wealthiest former West African colonies. Alliance of Sahel States (AES) members Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso severed ties with their former colonizer between 2021 and 2023, nationalized resources that France once plundered with impunity, and have since seen rapid economic, social and political progress.
Meanwhile, France is buckling under debt, closing its schools, and putting out fires across its cities set by its own enraged citizens.
For Africans, this is both a stern and amusing lesson on how inextricably linked their continent’s misery is to the hyperinflated living standards enjoyed by the West.
African Proverb Of The Week
What does this Central African proverb tell us?
Our deeply-ingrained fear, as Africans, of the “superior” European, is one of their greatest sources of power over us. But this fear is based on a lie, a lie which the West carefully engineered, by interrupting our history and erasing our collective memory. But the truth survived. It was uncovered from where the West tried to bury it by great African thinkers like Cheikh Anta Diop, John Henrik Clarke and Marimba Ani.
Africa has always been great. Africa has always been civilized. Africa has always been an integral part of the human story.
And Europeans have always known this.
They fear us far more than we could ever fear them. They fear an Africa that remembers its true history in an age of information and rapid technological development. They fear the threat that such an Africa could pose to their already-crumbling global order, and they should.
The only question for Africans is, will we continue to live our lives based on a lie, and watch our continent continue to be plundered? Or will we finally remember who we are, cease the golden opportunity of this shifting geopolitical landscape, and take back what was always ours?
