The Iphone Cult Phenomenon And Its Hidden Cost in Africa
The recent launch of Apple’s iPhone 18 predictably became another installment in the now-familiar annual consumerist spectacle that characterises Apple device launches, complete with live in-store events and smug influencers unboxing their new gadgets in front of their drooling audience.
To many, this familiar yearly routine is just a routine consumer event that hurts nobody and has no wider significance. António Guterres: UN Security Council Needs Permanent African Seat
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has again called for a permanent seat for Africa on the United Nations Security Council.
The only countries with permanent seats are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The 10 non-permanent seats rotate amongst regions, with three seats for African states; two each for the Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Western Europe and “Other States” regions; and one for Eastern European states.
Guterres last raised the issue in 2024.
Is a seat at this table going to make a difference for Africa? Drop us a comment.
