A Glaring Media Double Standard
These young men were charged on August 17, 2026, with running a cocaine trafficking ring on a US college campus between 2023 and 2024.
Unlike the typical mainstream media publicity blitz accompanied by sarcastic, racially-coded social media comments about “usual suspects”, “super-predators”, “per-capita” and “dindu nuffin” that would be expected if the suspects were significantly darker skinned, this case has received only moderate coverage within the US and next to no coverage outside it.
Would we expect the same silence if these faces were people of African descent?

This West African proverb is a reminder to Africans to liberate themselves from the mental prisons their ancestors were forced into by these strangers whose intentions were never good, and never repeat the mistakes of the past.
Africans must learn to watch over their daughters in today’s world, and judge all strangers who enter their space by their actions, not their claims.
And for the first time in decades, the continent has an example to follow, in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
