US President Donald Trump has promised to dole out $5,000 to every adult citizen of the US if his party wins the upcoming US midterm elections.
If this happened in Africa, this would be called exactly what it is - vote buying, campaign financing violation, and an egregious attempt to tamper with the integrity of an electoral process. Since it happened in the US, it has instead been allowed to quietly slip out of the headlines.

DRC President Tshisekedi Visits Isr*el As Isr*eli Weapons Devastate His Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi is moving to “strengthen” his country’s “partnership” with the world’s most hated country. On September 1st, 2026, President Tshisekedi made an official visit to Isr*el, where he was welcomed by Isr*eli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu did not, however, seem to even know where the Democratic Republic of the Congo is on the world map, or that the DRC and the Republic of the Congo (a.k.a. Congo-Brazzaville) are two different countries.
Israel is also an active player in the DRC’s long-running, externally-fuelled war.
Burkinabé President Ibrahim Traoré On Religious Leaders
In this quote from his keynote address at a September 4 event in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, celebrating the country’s National Day of School Excellence (JES), Burkinabé President Captain Ibrahim Traoré challenges the Burkinabé students in attendance at this event to question what their religious mentors teach them, and how these teachings improve – or harm – their material reality.
African Proverb Of The Week
The Tonga are a Southern African ethnic group whose communities span Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. In Tonga tradition, the honey-bird, known indigenously as “Soro”, is a messenger of fortune, with the power to draw people to it and lead them to things of value – in documented cases, typically a beehive full of honey.
This proverb embodies the Tonga belief in the importance of the honey-bird, and in Africa’s current context, the honey-birds are the revolutionary, Pan-Africanist voices and leaders who fight for the continent’s sovereign development, and who the people of Africa would do well to stand with.
For there is nothing that serves the external forces that thrive on Africa’s misery more, than the people of Africa killing their honey-birds.
Jeffrey Sachs: Unity Is Key To Defeating U.S. Divide-and-Conquer Strategy In Africa
Economist and Author Jeffrey Sachs believes that Africa’s only chance of defeating US imperialism and achieving industrialisation lies in collective action by the continent’s 55 countries.
Speaking in November 2025 at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sachs stated that the US actively impedes the African unification project because a unified Africa would not be a source of cheap industrial inputs anymore.
The solution according to him, is for Africa to do away with the idea of carrying out industrial transformation at a national level 55 different times, and embrace unity so that a single continental push can emerge, which will be much harder to stop.

Algeria Cuts Diplomatic Relations With United Arab Emirates
On 10 September 2026, Algeria severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, citing an “increasing number of provocative and hostile actions.”
The Algerian Foreign Ministry said the UAE’s actions had become unacceptable and intolerable, adding that Algeria had “exhausted all means of preserving bilateral relations.” It also ordered the UAE ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours.
This latest escalation comes after years of political tensions between the 2 countries caused by their opposing views on multiple issues including Morocco’s disputed claim over Western Sahara, which the UAW supports, Algeria’s opposition to the so-called Abraham Accords with Isr*el, and what Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune in October 2025 described as the UAE’s efforts to “sow chaos in Algeria for dubious reasons”.
